Before:
We had a really hard time looking for the perfect photographer. There are just so many good photographers out there that we were overwhelmed when we went to our first bridal fair in SM Megamall. Honestly, part of what shocked us is how expensive the photos/videos packages are. The first group that caught our eye charged 100K for their package!
Again, I searched the archive of w@w for more information on possible photographers. When I came across Dino’s work, I showed it to Clarence. We were really impressed with his work. We especially loved his album. It’s very neat and not cluttered at all.
We were decided on getting him but waited until January 2006 to book him. Actually, I was into panic mode that time because I realized that popular suppliers get booked a year in advance. In my panic, I called up Dino right away and asked him where I could deposit our initial payment. Dino told me to meet with him first before making any payments. Besides, he told me that our wedding date is not as hectic anymore. A few days before our appointment, I checked his website again to download the map to his place. I was so surprised when I saw that he had increased his rates! I felt that we couldn’t afford his new rates so I consulted Clarence about it. He said that we’ll need to scout for another photographer whose package will meet our budget.
So, I started emailing several photographers. But, I wouldn’t cancel our appointment with Dino. I felt that it was not proper to do so. On the day that we were supposed to meet, I told Clarence that we shouldn’t be bringing any money for the downpayment because we weren’t booking him anyway. Clarence said, “Withdraw na tayo. For sure, ibo-book mo si Dino. Mahilig ka sa magandang output e.” True enough, we booked Dino right away!
Dino is very soft-spoken. He’s really humble to considering that he’s one of the most sought after wedding photographers. He’s very candid with his remarks too. He was patient in explaining the different techniques of photography. He should us several samples of his work and we were truly impressed.
On our way to the meeting, Dino called us up several times on the phone for fear that we might get lost going to his place. Actually, I knew the place well because I have a friend who lives in the area. I just didn’t know the name of the street. It turned out that they were neighbors!
Before we left, Dino told us to just text him if we have anymore questions or if we needed information on certain suppliers.
We scheduled our prenup with Dino quite early upon the advice of our coordinators, The 3rd Party.
I must say that the prenup pictorial is one of my most awaited activities during the whole preparation phase aside from my fittings with Frederick.
We got to his studio quite early. He was still setting up and he was quite apologetic about it. When we started with the prenup, he showed me my best angle. (Honestly, nakalimutan ko na which is my best angle. Hehe…)
We enjoyed the prenup pictorial very much! We felt like models. It took us only a few minutes before we felt comfortable in front of the camera. When he showed us the pictures, we were so happy! Prenup pictorials pa lang, sulit na!
Below are two of my favorite pictures.

During:
Dino and his team came in early that day. It’s probably because they had an early wedding that day and the reception of the other couple was at the Manila Peninsula where we were staying. When they came, all the wedding paraphernalias have already been arranged by Alfred of The 3rd Party for the photoshoot.
After shooting the accessories, he started taking some shots of me and those inside the room. Actually, I hardly felt his presence. I only grew aware of him when we were having our pictorial after the make up was done since he was giving instructions. He’ll try to make you smile with his jokes. He brought with him 3 back up photographers. They were all trying to make me comfortable while the pictorial was going on. After a while, they asked me to change into my gown. Then, we had some more pictorials.
Since we were done early, we had time to relax and rest inside my room. Then, around 3:15pm, we left the room and had our pictorial at the 2nd floor of Manila Peninsula.
All throughout the wedding ceremony and reception, we hardly felt that Dino was there. He worked silently. Most of my friends actually thought that King, one of his back up photographers was Dino. But even if we hardly noticed him, he and his team came up with fantastic pictures.
Below are top 10 of our favorite pictures:
If I had to choose one picture to summarize our wedding day, it would have to be this picture.

When I saw this photograph during the slideshow, I said to myself, “Sana ako rin.” Clarence and his nieces and nephews looked so cute in this picture. Unfortunately, I don’t have a similar picture simply because, I only have 2 nephews and they were not in the mood to have their pictures taken that time.

I love this candid picture.

The signature veil shot.

The two moms having a light moment before the church ceremony.

I don’t think I told Dino or anyone of our suppliers that my papa was dead. Like any other daughter, I was a papa’s girl. So imagine my surprise when I saw this picture! Yup, my papa was there during the wedding, looking over us like he always did.
Side note: I wanted to have a butterfly release inside the church as I walk down the aisle. However, when I called up NSDG, they told me that they do not allow it. But apparently, the couple before us had a butterfly release, that’s why there were lots of butterflies inside the church when the ceremony started. My sister-in-law even thought that that was one of our gimmicks that day.

Honestly, we never noticed this picture until we saw it in our final album.

We almost missed our sunset pictorial at the Coconut Palace. Blame it on our bridal car driver. Anyway, with a good team of photographers behind you, it’s still possible to make the most out of a 5 minute shoot.

After:
We got the raw pictures and loose prints a week or less than 2 weeks after the wedding. We also got the album in less than 6 months. I think that it’s a good thing that Dino and his team chooses the pictures for the album and just asks the couple to approve the layout. This way, it saves the couple valuable time.
Anyway, I’ve read a lot of comments about Dino being good in using Photoshop. Honestly, we can attest that the raw pictures are really good in themselves. In the first place, if there was never a good picture to start with, wala din mapho-photoshop.
Overall, I can say that we’re glad that we got Dino’s team. They not only captured beautiful pictures but wonderful memories as well.

Before:
When we were starting with the preps, I never really thought that Frederick Peralta will be doing my gown. I didn’t have illusions that we’ll have a big budget dahil wala naman talaga.
So I browsed through all the messages at w@w. I read all suppliers’ ratings. I was able to come up with a shortlist of designers. However, when I saw my friend’s gown which was designed by Frederick, I said to myself , “What if?” No harm in trying, right?
Luckily, my friend, who was based in Cebu, was spending the holidays in Manila. She promised me that she’ll accompany me to Frederick’s shop. Nakakahiya because we were 1 hour late from our appointment. My friend who was to accompany us came in later pa! She called me up and told me to go inside the shop because she’ll be super late due to the traffic. E ayaw naming pareho ni Clarence. First of all, we were both intimidated. Second, we were late!
Anyway, we got inside the shop because we were afraid to be bumped off from our appointment. Once inside, we felt relaxed. Frederick’s staff was so accommodating. We waited for my friend before we met with Frederick. I think he was attending to another client at that time. I was so excited when we were called to go to Frederick’s office.
Frederick asked me if I already had a design in mind. I told him I want a simple and classic design for my gown. He gave me a pen and paper asked me to draw my dream gown. I drew a tube, princess cut gown. He asked me where the ceremony and the reception will be held and at what time. He took a good look at me then started sketching. I loved his first sketch right away.

Then, the subject came to budgets. How much? He asked me what my budget was. I couldn’t tell him. I was fidgeting. Sobrang dyahe. So it was my friend who told Frederick our budget. Then Frederick said, ok. Nasa fabric naman yan. Honestly, I didn’t care what fabric he’d use. As long as he’s doing my gown, ok na sa akin.
What we loved about Frederick is the fact that he has stayed humble through the years. (Side comment: Kaya nga I feel sad when I hear stories of upcoming designers with big egos. Designers who still have to prove themselves and yet charge an arm and a leg.) He was so accommodating all throughout our fitting sessions with him. We were late most of the time during our appointments but he would still be very friendly. He will really entertain you with his stories. He also told us to text him if we needed advise on certain suppliers. He was very generous with his tips.
We got all the gowns and dresses a week before the wedding. The night before the wedding, Frederick’s assistants came to my hotel room to bring the bodyform and set up the gown and accessories.

The Groom’s Suit.
In the initial stages of our wedding preparation, I asked Clarence what he’d like to wear. He told me he would like to wear a suit to our wedding. I was caught off guard. I thought that he’ll want to wear a barong. Forever tactless, I told him that getting a suit for him is expensive. Besides, it means that we’ll also have to provide suits for the entourage as well. During that time, we haven’t started scouting for suppliers yet but I knew that a suit would easily cost us P 10,000.00.
After my tactless remark, Clarence immediately said, sige magbabarong na lang ako. I saw the sadness in his eyes. I felt so sorry and told him that it’s ok to wear a suit and I am sure that a suit will fit him well. I felt so guilty that I’ll be wearing my dream gown and he’ll be stuck with something that he wasn’t happy about. But no amount of convincing can make him change his mind. He has decided to wear a barong.
It was a good thing that when I was having my measurements taken, Frederick asked him what he’ll be wearing and where he’s having it made. Since Frederick was very friendly, Clarence was very at ease with him. He told Frederick that he wanted a suit and Frederick told him that he’s also doing suits. They talked about the price and when I came back I think that Clarence was already thinking about having Frederick design his suit as well. I joined the conversation and asked Frederick if it was ok if the rest of the entourage will be in barong. He said that it was acceptable and besides, the groom needs to stand out. So after our meeting, we agreed that Clarence will be wearing a suit. My groom was so happy!

Mothers’ Gowns.
Again, we didn’t think of getting Frederick Peralta for our moms’ gowns. Actually, we had already canvassed for our entourage gown supplier. However, during one of our visits with Frederick, we asked him how much his minimum is if we asked him to design our moms’ gowns. Since the price he quoted was acceptable to us, we decided to book him for the mothers’ gowns as well.
Clarence and I felt that since the wedding is like some sort of tribute to our parents, we felt that they needed to feel just as special. And since this is a once-in-a-lifetime affair, we decided to pay a little extra for our moms’ outfits as our gifts to them.
Sabi nga ni Frederick, next to the bride, yun moms ang tinitingnan ng guests.

During:
We knew that Frederick had 3 weddings that day. But on our last fitting, while making chika with Ate Ruby, I asked her if Frederick’s coming to help me dress up. She then told Frederick about my concerns. Frederick jokingly said that he’ll wear his giant wings and go to the preps of his 3 brides. Lilipad daw siya. Anyway, I didn’t expect him to visit me anymore since the other 2 brides got their entire entourage package from him. In short, small time lang kami so I thought nasa bottom kami ng priority list. So imagine my surprise when he was at the hotel really early! His ever polite assistant, Jun, even requested permission from me if Frederick can use the bathroom to change into his suit. Of course, I said yes.
Frederick was there while my make up was being done by Peps. He even helped Peps put on my hair piece (which also came from Frederick).

After the make up and some pictorials, I was told to change into my wedding gown. Frederick and his assistants helped me into my gown. The gown was really heavy with all the beadworks. There were layers and layers of petticoat! Kaya pala kailangan talaga ng assistants to dress you up. I’ve always wondered about why they still need to go to the hotel and help the bride dress. Di pala madali and di talaga kakayanin mag-isa. When Dino and Threelogy asked me to step backwards and lean on the wall, I couldn’t move. Someone had to assist me. But after a few minutes, I got used to the weight of the gown and was more comfortable moving around.

Anyway, after being dressed up, a little pictorial pa ulit. Frederick coached me on how to smile and relax for the cameras. After my pictorial, Frederick left for his other brides. His assistants stayed with me until the wedding ceremony started.

After:
A lot of people complimented the gown. The fit was perfect. I felt super slim and sexy!
The beadworks were tastefully done. I had apprehensions about having beadwork on my gown but since it was Frederick who was doing it, I knew that it would turn out beautiful. I was right! I really loved the details of my gown. The gown registered so well especially in the evening shots taken by Dino and Threelogy.
After the wedding, the gown was so dirty. We brought it to a dry cleaner’s in Megamall but they wouldn’t accept it because they feared that they might damage the gown. I texted Frederick and asked for his recommendation. He told me to bring the gown to his office. At his office, we met Ate Ruby. She asked one of their staff to accompany us to Manila Steam Laundry to have the gown dry cleaned there.
Others:
I got my shoes from Frederick too. He wanted me to wear a 3-inch bridal shoes. He said that it would improve my posture. He also told me that I need to wear really high heels because my groom is tall.
I loved the shoes. My feet didn’t hurt at all.

HAIR AND MAKE UP
Peps Silvestre
PEPS SILVESTRE SALON
30 Sgt. Esguerra Ave. 2nd floor Autosource Bldg. QC
Cell# +63917-8156875
Rating: A++++++++++
Before:
I have been going to Peps for my haircut for more than 7 years now. He’s also such a good makeup artist so even for my makeup, I go to him. He’s like my personal stylist! He takes care of my hair. Every time I want a make over, I just go to his salon and have my hair done. I think that the texture of my hair has improved since I started going to him. It is only Peps that I trust when it comes to hair coloring. That’s how much faith I have in him.
It is only when I started going to Peps that people started complimenting my hair. Strangers would come up to me and ask me about my hair. When I had my hair permed (Yun flyaway style though once lang yun kasi ayaw ni Peps kinukulot ang hair ko.), people would ask me how I style my hair. When I had my hair colored, people would approach me and ask what color I used for my hair. One time, when I had my hot oil at a popular salon, the attendant said: “Ma’am, ang galing ng naggupit sa inyo. Mahal siguro yan ‘no?” Puzzled, I asked her why. She replied, “Kasi, ang ayos ng pagka-section e. Kahit di ka magblower, maganda pa rin.“
I have referred several of my friends to Peps and they have also become regular clients of his. Clarence also like having Peps do his haircut. Hiyang daw sya kay Peps.
When we had our prenups with Dino Lara, of course, we went to Peps. He was still with Salon West at that time. Peps said that he’ll experiment with my eyes and put false eyelashes. After the make up was done, I felt, makapal ata. Like all b2b, I wanted the blushing bride look. Anyway, I didn’t complain. However, after Dino showed us the prenup pictures, I was so happy. The make up was perfect! Peps really knows his stuff! I shouldn’t have doubted him.
More prenup pictures here.
During:
Peps was the earliest supplier to arrive. He was at the hotel before 10 am. It was a good thing because I asked him to do the make up of my two jr. bridesmaid who flew in from Hong Kong the day before.
Since we started early, the make up was done before 2:00pm. We had enough time for pictorials. Actually, we had a few extra minutes so we just stayed in the room and chatted. Everyone was so relaxed.
I don’t know if I just got used to the make up but I felt the make up during my wedding was lighter. But it stayed on till the end of the reception with minimal touch ups. Peps brought along an assistant to do my hair but it was him who supervised.

One of my frustrations is not having good skin. The week of the wedding, I had a few breakouts. I went to the dermatologist (Dermclinic) a few days before the wedding to have the pimples pricked. I told the dermatologist that my wedding is in a few days so that she won’t apply any peeling solution. Anyway, I think that Peps was able to cover the blemishes pretty well.

Peps and I.

Peps did the make up of my mom, 2 jr. bridesmaids, and my mother-in-law.

By the way, Peps doesn’t stay until the reception. He usually leaves when the pictorial at the hotel starts. But even with minimal touch ups (pressed powder lang before the start of the reception), the make up still stayed on till after the reception.

After:
Got a lot of compliments for my make up. Of course, when we watched the photoslideshow of Dino and the on-site of Threelogy during the reception, I knew that Peps did it again.
I was so relieved to see that even if Peps wasn’t there during the reception to do the retouch, my face didn’t turn oily as I feared. It even blended very well with my skin.
Side note: Peps does the make up at ASAP and other ABS-CBN shows. He also does make up for commercials and fashion shoots. He’s also the hairstylist of Piolo among others. The last time we were at Sir George, nakasabay pa namin sina Piolo and Carlos Agassi having their haircut. Carlos was even joking around and told Peps, “Hanggang labas ata ang pila!” There were alot of people that time and most were clients of Peps. In fact, our appointment was at 4:00pm but Peps got to attend to us at around 6:00pm. I was just surprised when I saw both Piolo and Carlos paying at the cashier. All the while, I thought that ex-deal yun. Anyway, it just shows that they really like Peps enough that they’re even willing to pay for their haircuts. Carlos even patiently waited for his turn.
If you would like to have a trial make up or haircut with Peps, better make an appointment first because Peps is out most of the time. It’s also best to schedule your appointments before lunch or a little after lunch since people usually come in in the afternoon.

This suppliers’ ratings is long overdue. However, I am still writing this as my thank you to our suppliers who made our dream wedding a reality. This is also for the w@w community where I got so many tips and for the brides-to-be/grooms-to-be who are on their wedding preparations stage right now.
Enjoy reading!

Before the wedding:
I’ve seen this church so many times in movies. And everytime, I marvel at how beautiful the church is. From outside, it would seem like it is a very big church but once you get inside, you’ll realize that it’s actually small. It was perfect for the intimate wedding that we wanted. However, they wouldn’t accept bookings of more than 1 year in advance. And since we booked Coconut Palace months earlier, I had to call NSDG up every week until they finally opened their books for 2007 reservations. I told Clarence that I was willing to give up our slot at the Coconut Palace if there would be a conflict with the dates at NSDG. Luckily, we were able to get both NSDG and CP.
The people at NSDG are very nice. We didn’t have any problems with them at all. There were times at the start of the preps that I was really makulit with Inday because I couldn’t make up my mind on the time slot I wanted. What Inday did was reserve the 2 slots for me. I never requested her to do this. I just found out when I went to the church to confirm the booking and pay the reservation fee. When I asked her why, she replied, “Kasi alam ko magbabago pa isip mo e.”
Albert was really nice too. And so was the priest who interviewed us. Anyway, we had 2 or 3 revisions on our missalette, so I know that they’re really reading it.
Most of our guests where unfamiliar with the church. However, after our wedding, tandang-tanda na nila. They would even recommend NSDG to others who’re planning to get married.
During:
Though they had rules regarding the age of the flower girls (must be 5 years old), the church coordinators did not prevent our flower girls from walking. We had 5 flower girls and 3 of those where in the age of 3 years old.
After:
We had no hassle getting our marriage contract at the church.

OFFICIATING PRIEST
Fr. Adrian Magnait

Before:
Fr. Adrian is our parish priest in Malabon.
At first, we didn’t feel the need to get our own priest. But now that our wedding is over, we’re very glad that my cousin suggested that we request Fr. Adrian to officate our wedding.
We’re really thankful that Fr. Adrian accepted our invitation. He had a very hectic schedule that day but he still came to the church very early. I asked our coordinator to advise his staff that there might be traffic in Edsa because of the road repair works being by the MMDA. Because of this, he was at the church by 3:00pm. Nakakahiya nga kay Fr. Adrian but the didn’t mind.
When we met with him before the wedding, he told us to give him the missalette in advance and to have his copy printed using big fonts. He also told us to practice our vows so that we’ll not be at a lost during the wedding ceremony.
During:
The ceremony was very solemn. Fr. Adrian’s approached to the ceremony was very personalized. He was able to capture the audience’s attention by his very clear voice, good diction, and his very engaging sermon.
After:
Every time we would see Fr. Adrian, he would remind us to pray every 4pm and ask God to bless our marriage.

RECEPTION VENUE

Before:
We initially wanted to hold our reception at The Loft in Rockwell. The Loft would have been a perfect venue since it was indoors, and only a few minutes’ drive from NSDG. Unfortunately, when I inquired in 2006, they were no longer accepting reservations for 2007. We were told that the whole place will be renovated and they couldn’t commit on a date when the new venue will be available.
So we had no other choice but to look for another venue. Hotels were out of the question because we found them quite expensive. We were left with Intramuros. I’ve always loved the walled city of Intramuros. But the place wasn’t as appealing to Clarence as it was to me. I’ve read about the Coconut Palace in W@W but it didn’t cross my mind to suggest the place to Clarence. I don’t know why, basta out of the picture sya lagi.
Anyway, one time, while we were driving around CCP, I asked Clarence what he thinks of Coconut Palace. He dismissed it right away telling me, “Mahal dun. Dun nagpaparty si Imelda Marcos e. “ Since I felt that we were running out of options, I still decided to research on Coconut Palace. I then found out that it was not as expensive as what we thought.
So after reading several reviews, I called them up to ask for their available dates for January. Only 2 dates for January saturdays were left and we chose January 27. Good thing that Josiah’s is one of their accredited caterers. Josiah’s was the first supplier that we booked because of their free chocolate fountain promo.
When we went to Coconut Palace to pay our reservation fee, we were amazed by what we saw. First time naming pareho to see Coconut Palace e. We immediately felt that we made the right decision. The place is so beautiful even without much styling.
During:
With Josiah’s wonderful set up, the place even turned up more beautiful. I can’t imagine a more romantic place by the sea. It was really perfect for our sunset pictorial. At the back, near the breakwater, Ms. Mabel advised us to put luminaries so that it won’t look bare. The effect was beautiful. Yun lang dinagdag namin. No additional lights, no additional flowers, and no additional decors. Allergic kasi kami sa additional costs.
We were lucky that the weather turned out fine. It was not cold and it was not windy. Pag windy kasi, you cannot use the chocolate fountains. As a precaution na rin, we asked Josiah’s to set up the dessert buffet tables near the covered area. I also chose tall centerpieces. So buti talaga and di windy.
Parking was not a problem either. The restrooms were clean.
We were glad too that we chose Coconut Palace because it was the best place to have fireworks.
After:
I don’t remember the exact cost that we spent on Coconut Palace. But I don’t think they charged us extra for bringing in Chamdor for the wine-toasting. Everything went perfectly well.

Last December 17, we finally got our edited video from Threelogy. We were actually surprised because we thought that we were only going to get the raw videos. Actually, we were also to be blamed for the delay since I was only able to email the list of songs last May.
As expected, the video turned up great! We have been watching it every day since we got hold of it! It feels so good to reminisce about that wonderful day.
I’ve uploaded the video per chapter on Youtube.

I had a pregnancy test this morning. It took less than 2 minutes for 2 lines to appear.
